These pads must only be fitted with carbon discs. They are generally used only in competition since they are at best efficiency at high temperatures (they can withstand over 1600°C)!; they are in their element on the track, where there is repeated harsh braking. They are not recommended for road use, where normal traffic conditions do not enable them to warm up enough, and therefore work to their full capacity. Carbon pads are made from compounds materials: it is the matrix of fibres which give the carbon its strength.
